1. Add Patriotic decor

It would not be a patriotic front porch without some red, white and blue!
I love adding bunting to the front porch railing. Patriotic bunting look beautiful from the top of the porch or over the door. Here zip ties work well to secure the bunting to the railings. You could also make a banner for above your door or to use on the railings.
Another way to add some warmth to your front porch is layering rugs. Here a red striped rug was used under my patriotic door mat. It is a fun way to bring some pattern and texture to the space.
It is good to select a door mat for various holidays such as Memorial, 4th of July and Veteran’s Day. It’s will be more cost effective.

It is fun to pick up some patriotic items such as decor items or flags that can be put inside of porch planters. Neighbors have them in their flower beds or by the mailbox.
Here I have a bow with red, white and blue ribbon around Mr. French. He is usually fancied up for the holidays.
Don’t forget to change out your yard flag to a patriotic theme.
2. Add Pillows for pops of color in red, white or blue
Pillow are always a fun way to add some charm to your porch furniture. Whether your buy a few festive pillows or make your own. It makes the place look nice and cozy.

I make this pillow with some paint and embroidery thread. This week, I will be sharing a tutorial on how to make this pillow. It was very easy to do.
3. plants always makes a big impact

Plants always makes a big impact to a porch. It not only adds color, the plants add a lot of texture and visual interest.

When you add plants to containers, think of it this easy rhythm “fillers, spillers, and thrillers”. What does this all mean? To make sure you have beautiful focal points in your garden containers include fillers, spillers and thrillers plants. These three key elements will balance your planter for that WOW factor. You can read more about it in my post Twelve Decorating Tips For Making Your Front Porch Cozy and Beautiful.
4. make a new door wreath

You can make a new wreath for your door at a fraction of the cost buying one. See if you have a wreath that can be repurposed. I do this all the time.
Fortunately, I already had a grapevine wreath. However, they are not that expense. The flowers were purchased at 50% off and the ribbon 60% off. Remember to hit those sales and snag stuff on clearance. Also, always check to see if there is a coupon that you can use.
You can read about how I made this wreath here.
5. dress up your front porch furniture
This bench the cushion is a black and white toile. I cannot sew. There I said it. LOL The black and white toile stuck out like a sore thumb. My solutions?
A SHEET!

No kidding, I used a blue and white pinstripe sheet with blue whales. The sheet was wrapped around the bench cushion. You could use a quilt too. I had a solid red quilt and one that was read and white striped. However, I thought the blue and white looked good.
The grandchildren loved it!
6. Add some vintage finds
In the above photo, you can see a rabbit hiding behind a wooden box. This old drawer was perfect to hold a small plant. I enjoy mixing old with the new in my home decorating.
This bench was repurpose from a vintage bed. It is wonderful that more people are repurposing old item and making them into new pieces. Many times these items would be end up in a landfill.
Be sure to look at yard sales, thrift stores and the end of people’s driveways for those “FREE” signs. You can find some great items to repurpose.
