1. Add Patriotic Decor

Red, White, and Blue for the Win!

No patriotic porch is complete without the classic colors! I love draping bunting across the porch railing for a festive look. Zip ties are a quick and easy way to secure it.

Layer Up for Style

Adding layers is a great way to create a warm and inviting space. Here, I used a red striped rug underneath my patriotic doormat. This adds a touch of pattern and texture to the porch.

Deck Out Your Door

A dedicated doormat for different holidays can be a fun way to show your spirit throughout the year. Plus, it’s more cost-effective than buying a new one for each occasion! Look for doormats with designs for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veteran’s Day.

It is fun to pick up patriotic items such as decor items or flags that can be put inside porch planters. Neighbors have them in their flower beds or by the mailbox.

Mr. French, the resin bulldog gets decked out with a patriotic bow. He is usually fancied up for the holidays.

Don’t forget to change out your yard flag to a patriotic theme.

2. Add pillows in red, white, and blue!

Pillows are always a fun and easy way to add charm to your porch furniture. Whether you buy a few festive pillows or make your own, it makes the place look nice and cozy.

I make this pillow with paint and embroidery thread. The full tutorial can be found here Patriotic Star Pillow.

3. Plants

Plants bring your porch to life! They not only add a burst of color, but their lush textures and interesting shapes create a feast for the eyes.

When you add plants to containers, think of this easy rhythm “fillers, spillers, and thrillers”. What does this all mean? To ensure beautiful focal points in your garden containers include fillers, spillers, and thrillers plants. These three key elements will balance your planter for that WOW factor. You can read more about it in my post Twelve Decorating Tips For Making Your Front Porch Cozy and Beautiful.

4. Make A Patriotic Door Wreath

How To Make A Patriotic Wreath B

You can make a new wreath for your door at a fraction of the cost of buying one. See if you have a wreath that can be repurposed. I do this all the time.

Fortunately, I already had a grapevine wreath. However, they are not that expense. The flowers were purchased at 50% off and the ribbon at 60% off. Remember to hit those sales and snag stuff on clearance. Also, always check to see if there is a coupon that you can use.

You can read about how I made this wreath here.

5. Dress Up Your Porch Furniture

On this bench, the cushion is a black and white toile. I cannot sew. There I said it. LOL The black and white toile stuck out like a sore thumb. My solutions?

A SHEET!

No kidding, I used a blue and white pinstripe sheet with blue whales. The sheet was wrapped around the bench cushion. You could use a quilt too. I had a solid red quilt and one that was read and white striped. However, I thought the blue and white looked good.

The grandchildren loved it!

6. Add Vintage Items

In the above photo, you can see a rabbit hiding behind a wooden box. This old drawer was perfect to hold a small plant. I enjoy mixing the old with the new in my home decorating.

This bench was repurposed from a vintage bed. It is wonderful that more people are repurposing old items and making them into new pieces. Many times these items would end up in a landfill.

Look at yard sales, thrift stores, and the end of people’s driveways for those “FREE” signs. You can find some great items to repurpose.
