1. Table Linens

There are various ways to dress you table for the holidays. Your table linens can be simple or elegant. You determine your the mood of your table by the types of linens you select.

Start with a base layer. A tablecloth or table runner is a great way to add color and texture to your table. You can select a neutral color like linen, white or ivory, or go for a more festive fall hue like orange, red, or yellow.

Use a plain table cloth and get creative with your table runner. A table runner is a great way to add a pop of color and pattern to your tablescape. If you don’t have a fall-themed table runner, you can easily create your own using burlap, or fabric.

Also remember that you can use a table runner instead of a table cloth. I do recommend that you use placemats if only using a runner. You want to protect your wooden table from the hot heat from plates.

Don’t Forget The Napkins

Don’t forget the napkins! Cloth napkins are a nice way to dress up your tablescape. A neutral color napkin can be used throughout the year. Look for sales or clearance.

If you don’t have cloth napkins, you can easily use paper napkins and fold them into a decorative shape.

Dress up your napkins with pretty napkin rings. I made these napkin rings from old plain acrylic rings. You can see the DIY Fall Napkin Ring tutorial here.

2. Chargers And Placemats

You can use simple placemats and chargers. Placemats and chargers can add a touch of elegance or coziness to your tablescape without being too expensive.

Try looking for neutral-colored placemats and chargers that can be used year-round. It can save you money using items that can be used throughout the year.

This year my Thanksgiving table has neutral color placemats found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. I opted not to use chargers and kept things very simplic.

3. Flowers

A centerpiece is the focal point of your tablescape. You can choose something that will catch the eye of your guests. A simple vase of fall flowers, a bowl of red or green apples, pumpkins and gourds make a beautiful centerpiece.

A floral arrangement with gorgeous colors compliments any table setting. You can easily dress up your table with flowers. You can purchase a bouquet or two at a reasonable price at your local supermarket for less than $8.

This vase was found at a local thrift store. You can see my post Easy DIY Upcycled Thrift Store Vase For Fall Home Decor here. It was an inexpensive project to dress up my home for the fall.

Try craving out a pumpkin and adding flowers to it. I create one for an Outdoor Fall Table Setting. It can used inside or outside and decorated with any type of flowers.

4. Place Setting For A Fall Tablescape

Place settings are a great way to add personality and style to your table. Start with layering your place setting by using a charger or placemat and/or both. Next add a dinner plate, salad plate, and bowl (if serving a soup). Bring out those pretty dishes and know it is fine to mix and match.

Add beautiful crystal or pretty glasses to your table whether it is casual or elegant. Finish it with silverware and a napkin.

5. Adding Special Touches To Your Fall Tablescape

Special touches to your table can make your guest feel invited to your home. You could add personalized name tag at each place setting. A cellophane bag with some chocolates and a gift tag with the persons name is an sweet treat and inexpensive welcoming gift.

Candle light to me is a must for that special touch. Whether you use taper candles or a couple of tea lights on your table, it give your table warm and a special glow.

Try adding a small cutting board with a piece of fruit. You could also add a sprig of rosemary to a napkin and tie some twine around it. The fragrance from the rosemary is lovely on the table. A sprig of rosemary would look beautiful with this pear on the cutting board.

I found these small cutting boards at Hobby Lobby for less than $1.50 each. We will be using them as appetizer plates for a Charcuterie Board of goodies.
