Have you ever found something in the Target Dollar Bin or at Dollar General? You knew it could be something fun with your spin on it.

I found this small wooden crate with legs. It would be perfect in my craft room. I figured it could hold some craft supplies. It would be perfect for storage of smaller items.

Wait until you see how I used it!

Tutorial How To Create A Coastal Farmhouse Inspired Small Wooden Crate For Storage

1. Sand

This small crate was raw press wood. Therefore, I used a sanding block to knock down any small splitters to prepare the surface for painting.

2. Paint

Look at this gorgeous blue green color. What I love about Dixie Belle’s Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint, it has a built in primer, the paint and a built in top coat to seal. It’s everything you need!

I am using the color Mirage on this crate. It is a beautiful color. It will make this inexpensive crate look amazing!

You will need two coats on the Mirage. The wood soaked up the paint and dried quick. The second coat went on after it had completely dried.

3. Glaze

When the second coat had completely dried, one coat of Moonshine Metallics in this stunning Caribbean. It gave the project a beautiful luster over top of the paint.

You can see in the second photo the luster. The Mirage by itself is a gorgeous color. You can leave it alone. If you want that ocean luster, try this Moonshine Metallics in Caribbean.

4. embellish

You can see the rich blue green color. It’s time for a little embellishment.

To make it have a coastal farmhouse feel, try adding some twine and a sea shell.

A dab on hot glue on each end to hold the twin in place. Add a dab of hot glue to the back of the shell and place in the center.

This sea shell was found on a beach walk with my husband. It was on our anniversary. Why not use it and make my room feel even more special.

It is the perfect storage solution for my coffee pods. In my craft room, I have a Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker and an electric tea kettle. Maybe some snacks too!

This small crate could hold craft supplies. You could use it in a bathroom for washcloths or makeup. There are so many options!

At first, I was going to use it to hold my television remotes. It is versatile to use for various things.

I love it!

That metallic paint really makes this little crate pop! Great choice to paint the metallic over the chalk paint. So pretty Tammy! 🙂
