Hello, sweet friends! Let us catch up today on Sunday’s Life Among The Blooms No. 22 – Empty Nesters. I have lots of stuff to share with you.
Hope you have your cup of coffee or tea ready. Here on Sundays, I talk about random things going on over at White Lilac Farmhouse and things that stop me in my tracks.
WHAT’S HAPPENING AT WHITE LILAC FARMHOUSE
We are empty nesters! Oh, my goodness, did I just say that aloud? Last weekend, our youngest (by a minute – twins) moved into a condo with a friend. He was the last of our children home to move out on his own.

There were mixed emotions around this move. My husband and I were excited for him to have his own place. We were excited to start the next chapter of our lives. However, it was a bittersweet moment when the last of your children do leave.
What I have learned in the week since Tyler has moved out: 1) my husband can no longer claim it was Ty that made the mess; and 2) it is my husband who messes up my pantry as suspected. LOL
My son is very excited to have his own place. It was fun to take him shopping to get some stuff for his place. We have some amazing neighbors that gave him some stuff too (a special thank you Judy and Rita).
The Basement is done and waiting for inspection
Our basement is done and waiting for inspection on Tuesday. It is wonderful having the carpet in the room. The carpet we selected is a Stain Master with a 8 twist and the top quality padding. It feels so good under our feet and if you lay on it.

The damaged drawer for the wet bar finally arrived. It does need to have the handle put on it.
Tyler and his childhood friend, AJ came by for a visit on Saturday. They volunteered to put together our popcorn maker.

My husband loves theater popcorn. One item he wanted for his room was a good popcorn machine.
As empty nesters, this room will be perfect for the family to enjoy when they come for a visit.

The furniture will be the last item we order. I am saving up to make that big purchase. We want to add two rows of theater seating there. A table and some chairs for game names would be nice in the room as well. I am on the hunt for something that I can makeover for the room.
ON THE BLOG
This week, I was busy staining the basement railings. The contractor replaced our old railings with beautiful heavy oak railings. To save money, we could stain or paint them ourselves.
There were lots of wonderful stain choices to use.

I have put together a tutorial on How To Stain And Seal Wood – Easy Step By Step Tutorial.

inspiration from others

Need an easy side dish recipe, my lovely friend Lynn from Living Large In A Small House has this delicious sounding Best Smashed Potatoes with Horseradish Recipe. Yum! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I love a good fresh dip with vegetables especially during the spring and summer months. My sweet friend, Jenn with Midwest Life and Style has this creamy spring herb dip. It is a must try!

Do you like DIY projects for your home? My dear friend, Wendy at WM Design House took an old picture frame and turned it into a work of art. It is beautiful on her porch see How To Make An Easy DIY Moss Frame Art Gallery here.

My close friend, Jennifer of Cottage On Bunker Hill is the queen thrift store makeovers. See how she took a drab looking brightly colored lamp to this gorgeous lamp for her home here. I am on the lookout for an ugly lamp to transform.
Hope you found some inspiration from my friends and I this week. Remember to keep shopping those yards sales and thrift stores. You can find some bargains out there and decorate your house.
Have a blessed day, sweet friends!

That’s my boys too, Jennifer. When I visit Zach in West Virginia, I always make food for him to put in the freezer. My oldest, I would bring him cookies.
