I thought it would be fun to bring you a fun project using a transfer. Better yet, how about three easy projects with one transfer?
This is project No. 2 of my three easy projects series using one transfer. If you missed the first project, you can see it here.

Have you worked with transfers before? Or wondering what is a transfer? A transfer is a pre-printed design such as a pattern, words or an image on a backing sheet that gets rubbed onto a surface. The beauty of transfers, you can use them on furniture, crafts or just about any good solid surface.
Dixie Belle has a line of wonderful transfers with beautiful designs to choose from florals, garden, boho, nautical, vintage, etc. For my three projects, I will be using a newer transfer called Rustic Herringbone. It looks like wood in a pattern.
Interested is seeing the many designs available? You can see the beautiful designs and products on their website here.

Let’s CREATE A DESIGNER Tray

You can create beautiful one of a kind home décor items for your home. A plain tray found on clearance or at a thrift store can be transformed in minutes.
For all three projects in this series, I will be using a sheet from the Rustic Herringbone Transfer. It comes with 4 sheets. The design size is 24 x 38″. A burnish tool comes with the transfer.
Adding a Transfer

You will select one transfer sheet from the Rustic Herringbone Transfer. Your transfer comes with four sheets.

With the protective backing still over the transfer take a pencil or pen and trace an outline on the back on the paper transfer sheet. Cut it out. With a ruler measure the inside width and length. Cut the transfer and protective paper down to fit the inside of your tray. You do not want it to spill over to the sides. You want the pattern to only be on the bottom of the tray.
Carefully remove the protective paper and lay the transfer evenly in the bottom of the tray. Do not move once you have laid it down. The pattern on the sheet could lift.

With your hand smooth it out. DO NOT MOVE the transfer at this point.
With your burnishing tool, you will rub over the transfer until the image adheres to the bottom of the tray. Lifting film it should be clear if the transfer has adhered to your project properly. If not, carefully laid it back down and continue to rub the burnishing tool over your image.
You can watch my video instruction for burnishing on this post.
Sealing The Project

To seal your project, you should seal it with one coat of Dixie Belle Clear Coat in Satin. It will protect the surface.

You can use a Foam N Daddy 1.5 sponge brush to apply a coat of Clear Coat over the entire bottom surface. Allow it to completely dry within one hour.
FINISHED PROJECT

Now you have a beautiful tray to serve refreshments to you family and friends.

It is a great tray for a wet bar. I plan to use it in my craft room. It perfect for when a friend comes over to craft or if I want to use it in the theater wet bar area.

Leslie, I am taking it slow. I get worn out and have to remind myself that it’s only been two weeks. Major surgery will wipe you out.
