Create An Affordable DIY Coastal Artwork -High End Dupe

You can get a little creative and make a high end dupe! All you need is a sea fan, starfish, sand dollar or a handful of sea shells; a hot glue gun, shadow box, fabric or peel and stick wallpaper.

SUPPLIES: – Large Shadow Box or deep Frame (mine is 20 x 20 and 3″ deep) – Sea Fan, Sand Dollar, Starfish or sea shells (your choice) / I am using a real Sea Fan – Scrap piece of cardboard – Hot Glue Gun & Glue Stick or Quick Dry Tacky Glue – Peel and Stick Wallpaper in Navy (you can also use burlap, a piece of fabric or contact paper) – Brown or white paper to put on the back – Pencil – Wallpaper Smoothing Tool (optional) – Clear packaging tape – Rolled brown paper for frame back (optional)

FRAME OR SHADOW BOX

You can use a frame or a shadow box as long as it is  at least 2.5 to 3 inches or more deep. Remember you could need it deeper depending on the objects you will be adding inside the frame.

Cut a piece of cardboard to fit in your frame. For the cardboard,  you can cover it with contact paper, peel and stick wallpaper or a fabric. I have some left over peel and stick faux grass cloth from another project.

BACKGROUND

You will peel a corner of the wallpaper back and lay on the cardboard. With a wallpaper smoothing tool remove any air bubbles as you slowly peel back the wallpaper and adhere it to the cardboard.

To get the sea fan to fit into my frame, I had to use a file to remove part of the bottom. You may want to remove it all together. A few dots of hot glue to the fan to hold it in place.

BACKGROUND

To finish the coastal artwork, it was put in the frame and secured with clear packaging tape. You can use rolled brown paper to completely seal off the back of your artwork like the professionals.
