This is my weight loss journey to lose 80 pounds through a lifestyle change. It’s not a diet, it is eating healthy. It is a life style change!
In my first post for Weight Loss Wednesdays (you can read it here), I talked about my plans and goals for successful weight loss with a lifestyle change to my eating habits. I am a big carbohydrate junky and really need kick old habits. It will not be an easy road to follow. However, it is a necessary one in order to become healthier.
The first week is always the hardest. Your body begins to detox from the junk that you previous been eating. Sugar is the worst culprit found in many foods especially processed foods. It makes you gain weight, adds to your risk of Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even depression. That’s enough to make you want to stay off of the bad sugar for good!
As your body detoxes, many people experience fatigue and headaches. Most of the time, that sugar withdrawal headache hits around the fourth day. I got it on day two! Ugh! I just wanted to go climb in bed sleep it off and forget about the world.
The fatigue lasted for about five days before I felt like myself. The first couple days were the worst. Although I cannot say I was super fatigue, I was tired. By Saturday (day six), I began feeling like myself. I did not exercise this first week. Mainly, I knew my body needed time to adjust to the changes in my eating routine and foods.
One thing that helped me, I went to bed earlier to get extra rest. A couple days, I did fall asleep for a power nap while dinner was cooking in the oven or Crock Pot.
It is so important to drink plenty of water. I have this great Bubba Envy Mug with a straw and holds 48 ounces of water. This mug is awesome! I fill it up twice during the day to consume 96 ounces of water. If you do not have a huge mug or jug, I recommend you snag one of the Bubba Envy Mug 48 oz. I have it linked under Shop My Favorites and at the end of the post.
Did you know that the body is comprised of 60% water? That’s a lot of water! There are several formulas out there to figure out how much water you need to consume. You often hear of the 8×8 rule. Where you drink 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water per day. That’s not enough for me. If you are more active, you will need more water. You should do your research to calculate the right amount for your body and activity level. For me, I drink 96 ounces of water each day (two of the Bubba Mugs).
Recently, I read an article on Healthline that drinking water can aid in weight loss. Water can boost your metabolic rate and help to increase the number of calories you burn each day.
Wow, I am so out of shape!
You think going up all these stairs in my home my legs would not feel like jelly.
It has been a slow start this week on the exercise front. Today, I kicked it into high gear. One day of exercising, I am dying. It felt as if I ran a marathon instead of working out for 45 minutes. I could not do 60 minutes on the rowing machine.
I wanted to cry, but was not going down that road. I pulled up my big girl panties and struggled through the workout. It was a good workout. Baby steps!
After finishing exercising, I literally wanted to crawl upstairs. Mind you, I am in the basement. I have a set of stairs and a landing then more stairs. Once on the main level, I have a second set of stairs with a landing then more stairs to reach my bedroom. I didn’t think this body would make it to the master bathroom for a steam shower.
I made it! Persevere, the word going through my head. My word for the year, PERSEVERE! I will PERSEVERE in this journey. I am determined to become healthy and fit.
You probably have experienced this feeling some point in your life too. Ugh! Why did I ever stop exercising? If you feel this way too, we cannot change the past but we can change the future with healthy habits.
In my mind, I keep telling myself that it will get better. Whenever you start any exercise program, it takes a good month to start getting the momentum going. Even walking in the neighborhood seems like a huge task. For now, I hold onto the fact that weeks from now it will be easier. Months from now, I will be stronger and will be amazed at what I have accomplished.
Never give up! Remember to PERSEVERE!
I got this! You got this too! We both GOT THIS!
I have lost a total 5.5 pounds this week! YAY!!!! You can’t see me but I am doing a little happy dance.
Below I have recapped my successes and pitfalls for this past week. If you are following along too, please share what is working for you.

Week 2 – Pitfalls
