This is my weight loss journey to lose 80 pounds through a lifestyle change. It’s not a diet, it is eating healthy. It is a life style change!
It’s been not quite two months yet, 6 full weeks and into the 7th week. I am down 11 pounds exactly. Not a huge weight loss this week. Mainly, it’s due to not exercising. Not only is it important to eat healthy, your body needs to build muscles to help burn off the fat.
I have a full-time job along with blogging part-time. From November through the end of February tends to be my busiest time of year with my full-time job. By the time I get off work (sometimes can be a 12-14 hour day), I will crawl into bed to sleep. It’s been that way for the past two weeks.
It did not help with the ice storm and the internet acting up too! Here’s the important thing, I still lost weight. It was only .6 pounds. Still, it’s .6 pounds that I am not carrying around any more on my body.
This is a journey not a race! I am learning to be patience with myself.
I keep this photo close by as a reminder that “you got this!” It was taken a few years ago when I had lost 66 pounds and was working towards my goal. I was down to a size 8 in this photo.
For me, I am not looking to get super skinny. My goal is to get to a healthy weight that makes me feel good and maintain it.
If you are new to my blog, you can see my hair is dark in the photo. Last May, I decided to go gray. The color was only holding for 3 weeks before I had roots. With the opportunity to work from home, I had it cut super short to let the gray in. Along with losing weight, I am also trying to get my hair back this length as well.
What I am learning during this journey is to be patient with myself. To celebrate the small victories such as losing .6 pounds.
TIP OF THE WEEK
It is important to allow yourself grace. If you get off track, hop back on and start again. You don’t give up. You will persevere!
Keep a favorite photo of yourself at a good healthy weight. It does not have to be your “skinny self”. Just a photo of you when you felt amazing. It’s a reminder that “YOU GOT THIS!”
WEEK 7 – SUCCESSES
- Down 11.0 pounds
- Lost .6 pounds at the end of week 6
- Drinking lots of water
- Drinking only one cup of coffee a day (large 16 oz.) in the morning. I don’t feel like a need another one. Only one day where I had two cups of coffee.
WEEK 7 – PITFALLS
- Long work hours to meet deadlines.
- A few days, I had a hard time falling to sleep due to work on my mind.
- Lack of exercising this week.
THE HEALTHY CORNER
Recently, I read an article on Healthline.com called “27 Foods that Give You More Energy”. Reading through the list of 27, I eat 17 of the items listed. Some not everyday but at least once a week. One of the items listed was water. I do drink lots of water throughout the day. People forget how great water is for your body and metabolism.
In the beginning, you will be running to the bathroom a lot. It’s your body ridding it’s self of all the toxins. As the weeks go on, your body begins to adjust. You won’t be running to the loo as much like in the beginning.
Some of the foods from the article that are a part of my diet:
- Bananas (moderation because of sugar)
- Sweet Potatoes (moderation one or two times a week)
- Coffee (moderation)
- Water (lots of it)
- Yogurt (I eat plain Greek Yogurt only), of course I add apples or strawberries, honey and nuts to it.
- Hummus (a favorite snack)
- Avocados (a favorite snack or in salads)
- Seeds (love to snack on pumpkin seeds)
- Popcorn (air popped – my Saturday night movie snack)
- Leafy Green Veggies (my favorite and eat spinach just about every day)
- Beans (moderation – because I have inflammation issues)
These are good food items to have in your diet. If you like butter on your sweet potatoes try Ghee. It’s a clarify butter that is a better healthy option. It’s great on your veggies too.
