Life Among The Blooms: Hello Fall

|

It feels like summer is hanging on too tightly, but I’m ready to embrace the fall season. Hello fall! Have you started decorating, or are you holding off until the temperatures drop?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the thought of decorating for fall all at once, consider a more gradual approach. I prefer to add fall decorations gradually, starting in late August and continuing with small touches as the season progresses into November. I have two good posts Decorate For Fall: When to Start and Creating a Cozy Fall Atmosphere in Your Home to help you get started and into the mood.

What’s Happening at White Lilac Farmhouse

Large black planter filled with fall mum, ornamental cabbage and other plants.

I decorated my porch and the garage entrance with new planters and seasonal fall flowers. Pottery Barn’s sale was too good to pass up. I spurlged on four quality oversized black planters, each at half the price.

By the garage, the planters were filled with beautiful crimson red mums, ornamental cabbage, petunias, and Creeping Jenny.

The front porch was transformed with cozy layers of rugs and vibrant fall plants to coordinate with the door wreath, creating a welcoming entrance for family and friends. Mr. French, the resin French Bulldog is sporting a new leopard print ribbon.

Last Sunday, I embarked on a new journey. It is volunteering as a Sunday School teacher for 3rd and 4th graders. In the past, I had always worked with younger children from nursery to 1st grade.

The class is filled with curious and engaging children who love to share fascinating stories and heartfelt prayer requests. As a teacher, I foster a supportive environment where they feel comfortable bringing all and any of their concerns to the Lord. There were some interesting prayer requests! What a sweet group of children.

Tip of The Week

As the leaves change to beautiful colors and the air grows crisp, we’re reminded of the beauty and bounty of fall. The fall season brings a chill to the air and a growing need for warmth in our hearts.

When the temperatures begin to drop local shelters struggle to meet the increased demand for warm clothing and food. It is the perfect time of year to come together as a community. Together we can show our neighbors that they are not alone. Let’s make this fall season a time of generosity and kindness by volunteering at a food bank, donating essential items, or simply offering a warm smile and a helping hand.

Ways you can help:

  • Donate food to local food banks.
  • Donate gently used items such as coats, sweaters, scarves, and hats to local homeless shelters or thrift stores.
  • Donate your time to Habitat for Humanity.
  • Donate your time to a local soup kitchen or food bank.
  • Help the elderly in the community by raking leaves, cleaning out gutters, repairing windows or doors, etc.
