Furniture Makeover Made Easy With Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint

When your kitchen table color is no longer working? It is time for a furniture makeover made easy with Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint.

My kitchen table was in great shape but the color was a distressed cream color. The color of the table appeared to be dirty looking with my white cabinets. The table in the new house was not working for me.

The first step was to decide on a color. I have this fan deck from Dixie Belle Paint Company. It shows all of the amazing colors in the Silk product line. What I love about using a fan deck is you can open it to place it against furniture, curtains, etc.

I held up the color against my white cabinets. When I narrow it down to a handful of color, I held the fan deck against my navy fabric chairs and next to the new rug for this area.

You can see that the cabinet are bright white with a gray glaze in the inset. My kitchen table looked very yellow in this space. Why buy a new table when the only issue is the wrong color.

Oyster Silk All-In-One is a very light gray to almost white. It is perfect for DIY furniture makeovers if you need a cover to blend with white cabinets.

If you are new to Silk product line by Dixie Belle Paint Company, the Silk All-In-One paint has a built in primer, paint and top coat. Basically, it’s all you need for most projects. However, I will be doing a kitchen table with a lot of wear and tear from grandchildren. To add extra layers of protection, I will add two more top coats.

1. Sanding

This piece of furniture had a top coat on it. Therefore, I used a sanding block to block down the top coat and prepare the surface for painting. You should go over the entire surface with a sanding block or sander if there is any shine to the table.

A tack cloth was used to try to remove as much dust before washing the piece.

A task cloth was used to remove any dust before painting.

2. Cleaning

After sanding your piece of furniture, it is good idea to clean your surface before painting with Pristine Clean to remove the dust and grime. Pristine Clean will remove all dust from sanding. This quality cleaner will de-grease and remove all debris from the surface of your piece.

3. PAINTing

My favorite part is painting the furniture. I love to paint. It is so much fun to watch the piece transform into something of beauty.

For the top, I am using a paint roller. An angled paint brush was used for the sides and the base of the table.

Wow! You can see what I mean that the cream color looked dirty. The new color looks so fresh and clean.

Even Piper, the French Bulldog had to get in on the action. She is my side kick and always right there were I am at all times. Oyster is the perfect grayish white color. Look at the difference!

She found a good place to nap and keep warm under the canvas drop cloth.

4. Extra Top Coats for added protection

Most of my furniture projects if using Silk All-In-One, no extra top coat is necessary. If you do have a piece of furniture like a dining table, child’s dresser or side table, it may need extra protection.

To protect my project, I will be adding two coats of Clear Coat Satin. In between the coats, I will lightly sand and wipe down to remove any dust with a tack cloth.

To get a smooth finish, you should do light strokes in a straight lines as much as possible.

I marked one of my paint brushes “clear coat”. It is used not for paint but only for my top coats.

It’s drying and look so nice. I cannot get over the crisp look of this color in the room. It was the perfect choice for this table.

Final project

The color Oyster in the Silk All-In-One looks perfect with the cabinets and this rug selection. Look how it now blends and compliments the other colors in the room.

A closer look at the base against the rug and the navy chairs. I love this color on the table.

It look like a brand new table! This table would have cost $2,000 to replace something of this quality. Painting it was such a cost saving solution.

Here is the old color on the base again. The new Oyster is on the top. See what I mean about the difference? The new color looks so much better.

It really does make a huge difference in the kitchen! Love it!
